Maintenance Technician

Position Overview:

Maintenance Technicians are responsible for efficient and safe operation of all areas of the plant. This includes processing, packaging, warehouse, and the utilities that support all areas of the plant. Technicians will frequently collaborate, and problem solve with Maintenance, Operations and other management. Maintenance Technicians are responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance on the facility and production equipment.

Working Conditions:

Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, and/or noise.
Daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical equipment, forklifts and electrical hazards.
Requires the ability to stand; walking around office and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling and twisting.
Must be able to work flexible schedule to include days, afternoons, night and weekend work, including the possibility of overtime.

Responsibilities, Skills and Experience:

Product manuals (e.g., reading and applying knowledge to make repairs)
Troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns (pinpointing and fixing breakdowns)
Root Cause Analysis
Diagnostic Troubleshooting
Understanding of electrical schematics and documentation
Up to 480V 3 phase troubleshooting and wiring
Electro-mechanical troubleshooting
Sanitary pumps
Strong mechanical aptitude
Maintaining and operating forklifts
Reading mechanical drawings (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics)
Experience with mechanical systems (e.g., gear boxes, chains, sprockets, motors, seals, bearings)
PLC knowledge (troubleshooting and program understanding)
Familiarity with conveyors, palletizing equipment, case packers preferred
Air compressors
General facility maintenance including but not limited to changing air filters, replacing door handles
Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
Attend maintenance planning meetings as requested
Ability to adapt and be flexible with daily work assignment as required and needed
Maintain a positive attitude while operating under a continuous improvement mindset
Communicative and detail orientated

Qualifications:

High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
Additional technical certifications preferred.

Experience with HVAC systems and plumbing a plus.
Experience in food manufacturing preferred.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Experience with lab equipment such as salt analyzer, pH meter, consistometer, and water activity meter
Responsible for collecting samples, testing, verifying and monitoring finished product, raw materials and packaging materials
Prepare, complete and turn in forms and reports for lab tests
Responsible for collecting and sending microbiological and chemical samples for external testing.
Assist in identifying and investigating abnormal test results, conducting root cause analysis.
Assist the front-line supervisory staff in ensuring adherence to GMP and HACCP program compliance.
Monitor the use of equipment to ensure it follows food safety and quality standards
Discard products that do not meet food safety and quality standards
Attend departmental meetings
Complete routine and refresher training

Qualifications:

Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus
Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
A minimum of 2 years of experience in quality within food manufacturing
