Sports Foundation, Inc. (SFI), a community based drug prevention and intervention program has serviced youth and families for more than forty years. SFI successfully addresses the needs of at-risk youth in our service area and beyond by creating partnerships with the Department of Education, private and public agencies, community groups, and youth to implement evidence based practices, and create supportive programs. These programs emphasize positive youth development and include services such as: case management, support/skills groups, youth leadership development opportunities, quality afterschool programs, youth community outreach, etc.

Prevention Intervention Specialist General Job Description:

The Prevention Intervention Specialist position will provide advocacy and comprehensive case management services for “at risk” youth, including the tasks of conducting intakes & assessments, and referrals to appropriate services. This position is also responsible to develop and implement appropriate Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs (ATOD) activities and evidence based programs and curriculums at assigned schools and for youth who access our on-site youth program. This will include facilitating small skills groups, community outreach, and the implementation of evidence based practices i.e., Life Skills, Too Good for Drugs / Violence, etc. Position also requires collaboration and coordination with other service providers.

Essential Duties:

Conduct comprehensive intakes and assessments for youth prevention counseling.
Classroom presentations (EBP’s-Evidence Based Programs) which are age sequential, grade and ability appropriate (e.g. Life Skills, Project Success, Teen Intervene, Project Towards No Drug Abuse, Project Towards No Tobacco Use, Too Good for Drugs / Violence, RRR Refuse-Remove-Reasons, Strengthening Families Program, etc.
Refer participant to appropriate community resources.
Collaborate and coordinate with other service providers as appropriate.
Provide follow-up monitoring on any placement or referral.
Maintain documentation and records as required and in a timely manner.
The planning and implementation of age appropriate skills groups/activities/programs on a regular basis that address ATOD issues.
Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and/or Prevention Director.
Required Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills for working with youth from diverse backgrounds (including, but not limited to, ethnic, religious, physical and mental abilities, etc.).
Commitment to work as part of a team.
Ability to be flexible in work schedule.
Desired Skills, Education & Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field.
Credentialed Prevention Professional/Specialist (CPP/CPS) preferred.
Two years qualifying experience in the ATOD prevention field.
Experience in case management and providing direct services to youth, ages 7 -19.
Strong communications and organizational skills.
Current knowledge of substance abuse prevention programs.
Demonstrated ability to organize and implement quality youth programming
Bilingual – (English and Spanish) and bicultural experience and abilities.
Commitment to empower youth to make informed decisions.
Ability and willingness to work under pressure.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $35,000.00 to $45,000.00 /year
