The EMT-B is responsible to provide high quality emergency and non-emergency basic life support and transportation to patients while providing exceptional customer service. The EMT-B is certified to operate an emergency vehicle and provides prehospital basic life support (BLS). The standard of practice of the EMT-B shall be in accordance with the most current edition of the US DOT “Emergency Medical Technician: National Standard Curriculum”, as modified by the NYS DOH and NYC REMAC.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Responds to calls when dispatched.
Reads maps, may drive ambulance to emergency site using most expeditious route permitted by weather and road conditions.
Observes all traffic ordinances and regulations.
Uses appropriate body substance isolation procedures.
Assesses the safety of the scene, gains access to the patient, assesses extent of injury or illness.
Extricates patient from entrapment.
