ROLE OVERVIEW
The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for delivery of nursing care to individuals based on comprehensive assessment, analysis, communication and collaboration with integrated team members, and educational needs of the patient. Additionally, the RN is accountable for on-going evaluation and documentation of all components of nursing care delivered to customers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· 1. Education/Experience: Graduate of an approved school of nursing required.
· 2. Technical Skills: Manual dexterity and physical agility to operate all equipment and perform all procedures. Utilizes safe body mechanics to ensure patient and caregiver safety.
· 3. Other qualifications/certificate/license: Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Colorado. Basic Cardiac Life Support, TNCC, ACLS, PALS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Exhibits behaviors that are consistent with the Mission, and Values of Hospital and the culture and objectives. All employees are expected to work as needed in providing health and wellness services in the community.
2. Member of the Profession: The RN is accountable for the ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to nursing practice. The RN supervises and is accountable for the continuum of nursing care, including, but not limited to LPN and CNA practice.
3. Provider: The RN, using identified standards of practice based on the nursing process, helps the patient/family/consumer to identify and to meet basic health needs in a wide variety of settings. The RN coordinated care of the patient/family/consumer using an interdisciplinary holistic approach.
4. Advocate: The RN promotes a climate in which patients/families/consumers may act in their own interest and intervenes when patients/families/consumers are unable to act in their own interest.
5. Manager: The RN as manager works to achieve desired outcomes through coordination of patient/family/consumer care with the effective use of personnel, equipment, supplies and work systems.
6. Educator: The RN, using the nursing process, provides patient/family/consumer education using a wide range of teaching methods to promote health in a variety of settings.
7. On-Call – in order to maintain our Level IV Trauma designation and OB, hospital must have an RN on-call 24/7. Therefore, all RNs must take 4 to 5 call shifts (to include weekends) per month.
In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon needs or requirements.
