POSITION SUMMARY: As a member of the Community Engagement team, the Community Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with the implementation of programing that engages and educates the community in support of Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper’s mission to protect and restore our water and surrounding ecosystems for current and future generations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Coordinate volunteer based shoreline cleanup, habitat restoration, and water quality data collection events and programs
 Coordinate guest registration for and assist in implementation of educational tour programing
 Help field and coordinate responses to public inquiries via email, phone, and in person at Waterkeeper events
 Communicate with volunteers, tour participants, and event attendees
 Assist in community outreach
 Assist with formal and informal environmental education programs
 Attend public information and community development meetings including some nights and weekends when necessary and required  Assist with inventory, service, and maintenance of all Waterkeeper’s tools and equipment

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assist in duties related to communications
 Assist in implementing habitat restoration projects including leading tree plantings and invasive species removals

KEY STAKEHOLDERS/RELATIONSHIPS/CONNECTIONS: This position will work with all members of the community who engage with Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper including Waterkeeper team members.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
 Minimum of an Associate’s degree in Natural Science, Education, or related field required, Bachelor’s degree preferred
 Relevant experience in customer service/ client relations/ community relations
 Experience in volunteer and event management
 Proficient in Microsoft Suite (proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and website design a plus)
 Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 a plus
 Comfortable printing, scanning, copying, faxing and using other office devices
 Must possess a valid driver’s license with daily access to reliable transportation
 Experience kayaking, and or any type of outdoor guiding a plus
 Experience with landscaping and plant ID a plus
 Environmental Education experience a plus

 Must have strong project management skills and be able to deploy resources effectively and efficiently.
 Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
 Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast paced environment
 Meticulous organizational skills
 Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
 Demonstrate the ability to maintain a high energy level and be comfortable managing multifaceted tasks in conjunction with day-to-day activities
 Must be self-motivated, possess an adaptive skillset, and strive for continued professional development
 Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment with extensive cross-team collaboration

KEY COMPETENCIES:

 Passion for Great Lakes and water resource protection- comfortable interacting with water in a variety of professional and recreational endeavors, including but not limited to paddling, boating and wading.
 Creativity, flexibility, and passion for community revitalization

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
 Demonstrate the ability to maintain a high energy level, positive attitude and be comfortable managing many multi-faceted tasks in conjunction with day-to-day activities.
 Regularly required to speak clearly, write effectively and act as an engaged listener.
 Must be able to occasionally lift and carry 30 lbs.
 Must be Comfortable with canoe and kayak paddling and working outdoors in inclement weather.

ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Approximately 50% of work will be conducted in an office setting and 50% in outdoors in a fieldwork setting. Some flexibility in schedule is required; occasional work in the evening and weekends for meetings or event participation will be necessary.

COMPENSATION:

Hourly compensation range is $15-$18 per hour commensurate with experience. A robust benefits package is included with this position and the details of this package will be discussed with the final candidates.
