Specialty Foods & Grocery Buyer – Food Pantry, Ltd.
We’re seeking a creative and motivated individual with a passion for new products and program development to join our Food Pantry team as a Specialty Foods & Grocery Buyer.
Responsibilities:
· Source new specialty and regional products
· Build and maintain strong vendor relationships and partnerships, actively managing them while seeking new partnerships
· Develop exciting programs and product sets to drive sales
· Negotiate buying prices and delivery terms to meet Company margin goals
· Create short and long term sales planning growth strategies to reach revenue goals and objectives
· Research and understand market trends, style forecasting, develop future predictions and programs based on their research
· Analyze current business to identify business opportunities and current risks
· Develop and utilize best practices/processes to manage and replenishment ordering, markdowns, and aged inventory
· Collaborate with Visual Merchandising teams, operations, marketing and related departments to develop presentation strategies for assortments
· Attend trade shows and visit wholesale showrooms to find new sources and merchandise
· Be accountable for financial goals including sales, margins, inventory and sell through percentages
· Develop and maintain compelling sets and schematics to optimize sales and profitability
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree
· Minimum of 5 years of experience as a buyer in the grocery industry
· Established relationships with desirable/major vendors
· Ability to work with both small and large vendors
· Creativity and an eye for new, exciting products and emerging trends in the industry
· Knowledge of sourcing core grocery products, as well as specialty and regional products
· Experience in facilitating direct purchases via freight forwarder
· Strong business acumen with the ability to translate financial reports into practical and profitable decisions and plans
· Ability to develop ad hoc financial reports
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong merchandising skills
· Ability to mentor and train staff to insure the development of future talent
· Strong computer skills-highly proficient in excel and word
· Experience in the visitor industry preferred
