Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director of User Support Services (USS), the User Support Services Systems Administrator is responsible for architecture, administration, and maintenance of systems and infrastructure supported by USS. Incumbent provides tier 2 and 3 support for these systems and serves as an escalation point from other USS staff. Incumbent also provides direct customer support for unique systems in departments that USS supports.

The incumbent must participate in and lead team projects; and coordinate with other IT teams, administrators, faculty, and staff on shared projects. Therefore, he or she must communicate effectively, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with short timelines and fast approaching deadlines.

The incumbent often works independently from direct supervision. Therefore, he or she must supplement their knowledge with research and with vendor collaboration to resolve complex problems and will document decisions made in the support/resolution of all routine and non-routine problems. The decisions made in fulfilling the duties of this position may impact colleges, schools, departments, faculty, researchers, and staff with sensitive or valuable data, and their related projects.

This position may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements
This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge in operating systems programs, maintenance, systems administration, and network systems that would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, engineering mathematics, telecommunications or a related technical field, or equivalent technical training and/or experience.

Obtain information and data for Branch Chief and Branch PI’s; review and summarize materials and data. Gather and coordinate information for review, conduct data entry and file maintenance, edit and or prepare text, data and charts as needed.
Prepare a variety of documents to include, but not limited to letters, memorandums and any other assigned material, (reports, schedules, agendas, manuscripts, abstracts, graphs etc.); obtain clearances as needed.
Prepares and gathers material for use in reports, presentations and speeches of the supervisor. This includes maintaining a file of visual aids for use in presentations and making all arrangements for the presentations.
Receives all visitors and telephone calls to the Branch PI’s. Screens calls by determining the nature and purpose of the call referring calls not requiring the supervisor’s attention to other staff members or handling the matter personally. When calls must be referred to the appropriate Branch PI, the incumbent furnishes that PI with information readily obtainable to aid in the discussion.
Controls all correspondence. Receives all incoming unclassified mail for the Branch PIs and maintains a daily log of all official mail. Determines whether correspondence should be brought to the attention of the supervisor, referred to the appropriate personnel or handled personally. Follows up on incoming mail to ensure timely and appropriate action. Reviews all outgoing correspondence for neatness, accuracy, adherence to established format and adherence to the supervisor’s policies. Drafts correspondence such as routine official correspondence, social and personal acknowledgments, congratulatory letters, acceptance letters and routine office reports.
Assist with the processing and workflow of incoming medical records and imaging studies sent to PIs for second opinions or evaluation for clinical trials
